Constructive U.S –Iran Talks Held; Both Sides Must Uphold Ceasefire Commitment: Ishaq Dar

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has called on the United States and Iran to remain committed to a ceasefire following what he described as “comprehensive and constructive” negotiations held in Islamabad.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dar emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum toward peace, urging both nations to uphold their commitments and continue engaging with a positive and forward-looking approach. “We hope that both countries will move ahead with constructive intent for sustainable peace and prosperity in the region and beyond,” he stated.

Dar revealed that the diplomatic engagement was made possible after both sides responded positively to a request by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, underscoring Pakistan’s active role in facilitating dialogue between the two longstanding adversaries.

Highlighting the significance of the ceasefire understanding, Dar stressed that its continuity is essential for creating an environment conducive to further negotiations. “It is imperative that both sides adhere firmly to the ceasefire commitment,” he said, adding that Pakistan remains committed to supporting ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation to both delegations for their participation and cooperation throughout the negotiation process. He confirmed that the United States delegation was led by Vice President J. D. Vance, while the Iranian delegation was headed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament.

According to Dar, multiple rounds of detailed discussions were held, covering a range of sensitive and complex issues. He noted that he personally oversaw and facilitated the process alongside Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, reflecting a coordinated national effort to support diplomatic engagement.

Describing the talks as a meaningful step forward, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive and neutral role in promoting dialogue. “Pakistan will continue to facilitate the negotiation process between both countries,” he affirmed.

The latest round of talks represents a significant diplomatic effort aimed at reducing tensions and fostering stability in a region long affected by geopolitical rivalries. Observers view Pakistan’s mediation as a notable contribution toward encouraging dialogue and preventing escalation.
