Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has said that Pakistan is playing a facilitative role in ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to the US–Iran ceasefire and the talks currently underway in Islamabad, while the responsibility for resolving substantive issues lies with the concerned parties.
Speaking to a US-based media outlet, he said that high-level diplomatic efforts had been underway for some time, and Pakistan had continued its long-standing tradition of supporting dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He noted that Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach was undertaken in coordination with several regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and others, whose cooperation helped support the broader peace initiative.
According to him, the negotiations that have now begun in Islamabad are being conducted in a constructive atmosphere, with both sides showing willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue despite deep-rooted differences.
The ambassador emphasized that discussions and mutual understanding can help move the process forward but stressed that Pakistan’s role remains that of a facilitator rather than a decision-maker in the settlement of outstanding disputes.
He clarified that the resolution of contentious issues rests with the directly involved parties, while Pakistan and the wider international community continue to express goodwill and support for a peaceful outcome.
He further underscored the importance of giving diplomacy a full and fair opportunity at this sensitive stage, noting that sustained engagement remains essential for reducing tensions and preventing further escalation in the region.
