Pakistan Stands Firm for Regional Sovereignty and Security, Declares Asim Iftikhar at UN

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, sovereignty, and diplomatic engagement during his address to the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking at a high-level session convened amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Ambassador Iftikhar emphasized that Pakistan seeks to uphold the security and sovereignty of all friendly nations in the region. He underscored the urgent need for coordinated international efforts to ensure the reopening and secure functioning of the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as vital for global energy flows and economic stability.

Highlighting Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic posture, the ambassador announced Islamabad’s support for a resolution presented by Bahrain, aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting dialogue among stakeholders. He stressed that the current crisis requires restraint, patience, and a renewed commitment to diplomacy.

“Pakistan firmly believes that negotiations and diplomatic engagement must be given every possible opportunity,” Ambassador Iftikhar stated. “Our objective is a sustainable and lasting resolution to the ongoing crisis—one that addresses underlying concerns and ensures long-term regional stability.”

Reiterating Pakistan’s principled stance, he noted that the country will continue to play an active and responsible role in efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace. He categorically asserted that military confrontation is not a viable solution, adding that meaningful dialogue remains the only path toward durable peace.

The ambassador also highlighted growing international recognition of Pakistan’s role in advocating for ceasefire initiatives and facilitating diplomatic outreach. He pointed to ongoing global efforts, supported by Pakistan, aimed at fostering consensus and preventing further escalation in a volatile region.

The address comes at a critical juncture as world powers deliberate measures to stabilize the Middle East and safeguard key maritime routes. Pakistan’s intervention at the Security Council reflects its broader commitment to multilateralism and conflict resolution through peaceful means.
