The Pakistan Navy has significantly enhanced its maritime defense capabilities with the induction of its second Milgem-class warship, PNS Khyber, into the naval fleet. The commissioning ceremony, held with full military honors, was attended by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the addition of PNS Khyber represents a major step forward in the modernization of Pakistan’s naval forces, incorporating advanced platforms and cutting-edge technologies designed to address evolving maritime security challenges.
Speaking at the ceremony, Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted that the Pakistan Navy’s modern fleet is fully equipped with sophisticated systems capable of targeting adversaries’ critical infrastructure and naval assets with precision. He emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic location along vital global energy sea lanes makes maritime security a top national priority.
“Ensuring the protection of national interests and safeguarding sea lines of communication requires a strong and capable naval force,” the Naval Chief stated. He reaffirmed the Navy’s readiness to respond decisively to any aggression against Pakistan’s maritime domain.
Referring to past regional tensions, Admiral Ashraf noted that the Pakistan Navy had maintained full operational readiness during critical situations, including preparedness to counter major naval threats. He underscored that any challenge to Pakistan’s maritime interests would be met with a robust and effective response.
The Naval Chief further stated that PNS Khyber, along with the upcoming Hangor-class submarines, will serve as a formidable pillar of Pakistan’s maritime defense, enhancing deterrence and operational reach.
Reiterating the Navy’s commitment, Admiral Ashraf emphasized the importance of securing Pakistan’s maritime boundaries and ensuring the sovereignty of its waters through sustained modernization and vigilance.
