A high-level tripartite meeting between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan is currently underway in Urumqi, focusing on regional political and economic matters, as well as the evolving situation in Afghanistan. The discussions aim to foster dialogue, enhance cooperation, and explore pathways for peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan is represented at the talks by Additional Foreign Secretary Syed Ali Asad Gilani, while senior officials from the Afghan Taliban government and Chinese authorities are also participating. Upon arrival in Beijing yesterday, China’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Dr. Yu Xiaoyang, welcomed the Pakistani and Afghan delegations, signaling the strategic importance of the meeting.
According to a statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dialogue follows consultations between the foreign ministers of Pakistan and China, with Afghanistan’s situation forming a key topic of discussion. The tripartite platform provides a renewed opportunity to address pressing regional issues, including political stability, humanitarian concerns, and economic collaboration.
The talks are expected to contribute to enhancing peace and security across the region, strengthening economic partnerships, and supporting Afghanistan’s political and humanitarian development. Pakistani officials reaffirmed their country’s commitment to playing a constructive role and promoting positive regional engagement throughout the discussions.
