Asif Ali Zardari has stated that Pakistan will not allow any neighboring territory to be used to destabilize the country, emphasizing the protection of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Addressing a joint session of parliament, the President offered condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and strongly condemned attacks on Iran.

Zardari said that as a two-time elected president, his ninth address to parliament symbolized democratic continuity and constitutional responsibility. Nations, he noted, are tested not only during crises but also at critical historical turning points. He stressed the need to strengthen constitutional supremacy, promote economic development, and ensure public welfare through peace and stability.

The President recalled the foundational vision of the country’s leaders, stating that Muhammad Ali Jinnah envisioned a democratic state governed by law and constitutional order. He also highlighted the role of former leaders including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who provided a consensus constitution, and Benazir Bhutto, whose leadership and sacrifice strengthened democratic processes.

He further said that during his previous tenure, constitutional authority was restored to parliament, transferring executive powers in accordance with democratic principles.

Referring to recent security challenges, the President said that during the past ten months Pakistan had faced complex threats, but the country’s armed forces transformed hostile attacks into strategic victories in what he described as the “Battle of Truth”.

He said Pakistan’s security forces demonstrated professional discipline and operational excellence in responding to unprovoked attacks along both borders. He credited the sacrifices of the armed forces for strengthening national security and changing regional strategic perceptions.

The President noted that on the night of 26 February, the Taliban regime launched attacks along Pakistan’s western border. In response, Pakistan’s security forces carried out decisive actions to prevent any further infiltration attempts.

He emphasized that political leadership and the nation stood united during the crisis, adding that Pakistan remains secure due to the vigilance, bravery and service of its defenders.

Zardari reiterated that Pakistan is a responsible state and retains the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the international framework. He warned that no actor would be allowed to disrupt Pakistan’s peace.

He also alleged that elements within Afghanistan have provided sanctuary to terrorist groups targeting Pakistan but stressed that Islamabad has never rejected dialogue as a tool for resolving disputes.

The President concluded that Pakistan’s strategic posture reflects maturity, confidence and clarity of purpose, affirming that the country will continue defending its sovereignty while pursuing peace and stability in the region.
