The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF) has claimed responsibility for a targeted ambush in northern Afghanistan’s Kunduz Province, stating that three Taliban fighters were killed in an operation carried out on the evening of Sunday, 1 March 2026.
According to a statement issued by the NRF, the operation took place at approximately 8:00 p.m. along the Kunduz–Aliabad highway in the Angoor Bagh area. The group said its forces targeted a vehicle transporting members of the Taliban in what it described as a pre-planned and coordinated ambush.
The NRF reported that three Taliban members were killed during the attack. The claims have not been independently verified, and the Taliban authorities have not publicly commented on the incident at the time of release.
The resistance group stated that its fighters withdrew safely from the scene following the operation and that no civilians or NRF personnel were harmed. The group characterized the attack as part of its ongoing armed campaign against Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
The Kunduz–Aliabad corridor has previously witnessed security incidents due to its strategic importance in connecting key districts of Kunduz Province. While overall levels of open conflict in Afghanistan have fluctuated in recent years, localized armed engagements between anti-Taliban groups and Taliban security forces continue to be reported intermittently.
In its statement, the NRF said it intends to continue what it described as “targeted operations” in various regions of the country. The group reiterated its opposition to Taliban governance and framed its activities as part of a broader objective to challenge the current authorities.
There was no immediate independent confirmation of casualties or further operational details. Local sources in Kunduz have yet to provide additional information regarding the extent of the incident or its aftermath.
The situation in the province remains under observation, with security dynamics in northern Afghanistan continuing to evolve amid sporadic armed resistance activities.
