Three soldiers were martyred after terrorists opened fire on a security check post in the Tochi Scout area of North Waziristan, officials said on Thursday.
According to security sources, the attack targeted the 124 Wing Suri Check Post, established under the 53 Brigade, in the Tochi Skot locality. Armed assailants reportedly launched a sudden burst of gunfire at the post, triggering an exchange of fire.
As a result of the attack, three soldiers embraced martyrdom. They have been identified as Sepoy Hazratullah, Sepoy Naimatullah, and Sajid Khattak.
Security officials said reinforcements were rushed to the area, and a clearance operation was launched to track down the attackers. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the assault, though North Waziristan, part of the former tribal districts merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has witnessed periodic militant activity despite sustained counterterrorism operations in recent years.
The bodies of the martyred soldiers were shifted to a nearby military facility for formal procedures before being sent to their native towns for burial with full military honors.
Security forces have heightened vigilance across surrounding posts following the attack.
