The National Resistance Front (NRF) carried out a targeted attack on a Taliban checkpoint at Azadi Square in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz on Thursday evening, escalating tensions between anti-Taliban fighters and the de facto authorities.
According to resistance sources, the assault took place at around 6:30 p.m. on February 5, 2026. The checkpoint, located in a busy sector of the city, came under coordinated attack, triggering an exchange of fire.
The operation resulted in the killing of two Taliban fighters, while three others affiliated with the group were wounded. Resistance forces also claimed to have destroyed a Taliban military vehicle during the strike.
No immediate official statement was issued by Taliban authorities regarding the incident or the reported casualties.
The latest attack underscores intensifying clashes between the Afghan Taliban and National Resistance Front fighters, signaling rising operational tempo and persistent insecurity in parts of northern Afghanistan, particularly in and around Kunduz.
