A terrorist attack targeting a poppy eradication operation in Balochistan has once again exposed the deep-rooted nexus between narcotics trafficking, criminal networks, and terrorist organizations operating in the region. On 28 January 2026, during an officially sanctioned operation to eliminate illicit poppy cultivation in Zard Kaur, Hurmagay area, militants affiliated with Fitna Al Hindustan (FAH) – Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) opened indiscriminate fire on Frontier Corps (FC) personnel who were part of the Poppy Eradication Committee.
FC troops responded swiftly, professionally, and with restraint, effectively repelling the attack. As a result of the prompt response, three FAH terrorists were neutralized on the spot, preventing further loss of life and ensuring the continuation of the operation. Preliminary identification confirms that one of the killed militants was a local FAH operative, while the remaining two were Afghan nationals, highlighting the transnational dimensions of terrorist involvement in criminal activities.
During the exchange of fire, one FC soldier sustained a gunshot injury. He was immediately evacuated for medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
This incident starkly underscores the well-established and dangerous nexus between terrorist groups, organized crime, and illicit narcotics networks.
