Six Taliban Fighters Killed Attempting to Cross from Bajaur into Kunar, Afghanistan

According to reliable sources and confirmed by the Afghan Taliban, six of their fighters were killed last night while attempting to cross from Pakistan’s Bajaur district into Afghanistan’s Kunar province. The operation highlights the persistent threat posed by cross-border militant movements and the challenges of securing the region.

The group, consisting of 66 Afghan nationals, had been operating in Bajaur for approximately five months in coordination with local TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) elements. While attempting to return to Afghanistan for rest and recuperation, they were intercepted by Pakistani security forces in a carefully executed ambush.

Several fighters were killed during the encounter, while others were forced to retreat under heavy pressure. Harsh winter conditions, including heavy snowfall and extreme cold, contributed to additional casualties among the fleeing militants, ultimately resulting in six fatalities.

The Afghan Taliban publicly confirmed the deaths and reported that the bodies of the deceased were transported to Kunar province, where funeral prayers were conducted at the Shagai madrassa.

Despite repeated denials by the Afghan Taliban in the past regarding cross-border movements, this incident reaffirms that their fighters regularly traverse the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Militant groups active in Pakistan often move across the border to Afghanistan, where their operations and burials are carried out openly, highlighting the ongoing cross-border threat and coordination between foreign and local extremist elements.

The Pakistani security forces emphasized that such operations are part of continued efforts to prevent militants from exploiting border regions for attacks and to safeguard civilians. Authorities stressed the need for vigilance, coordinated intelligence, and cross-border cooperation to counter the persistent movement of armed groups.

This incident underscores the complex security dynamics along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and confirms that Afghan Taliban elements operate openly across the region, despite prior denials, posing enduring challenges for regional security.
