Pakistani security forces effectively responded to an unprovoked cross-border firing by elements of the Afghan Taliban in the border district of Qila Saifullah, security sources said on Monday.
According to the sources, militants affiliated with the Afghan Taliban opened fire from across the border, targeting the Faisal Post near the Kaniyan police station in the border area. The firing was described as unprovoked and aimed at provoking a response along the sensitive frontier.
Pakistan’s security forces responded promptly and decisively, launching a calibrated counteraction to neutralize the threat. During the response, a total of seven militant positions, including posts and checkpoints used by the Afghan Taliban, were targeted.
Security sources said the operation involved the use of modern and precision weaponry, including mortars, drones and armored units. All identified targets were engaged with accuracy and professional execution.
As a result of the retaliatory action, Afghan Taliban personnel reportedly suffered casualties. Following the strikes, militants abandoned several of their posts and fled the area.
Sources emphasized that Pakistani forces maintained full control of the situation throughout the engagement, preventing any spillover or civilian harm. The border area remains under strict surveillance, with forces maintaining heightened readiness to counter any further provocations.
Officials reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that any cross-border aggression will be met with an appropriate and proportionate response.
