The Chinese Embassy in Tajikistan has issued an urgent advisory warning of extremely dire and complex security conditions along the Afghanistan–Tajikistan border, urging Chinese citizens and businesses to evacuate the area immediately and implement heightened security precautions.
The advisory follows a recent border clash in which four militants linked to a terrorist organization were killed while attempting to infiltrate Tajik territory from Afghanistan, according to Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security. The embassy stressed that the deteriorating security situation poses serious risks to the safety of Chinese nationals and enterprises operating in the region.
Chinese authorities emphasized the need for vigilance, coordination, and orderly withdrawal from affected areas. The embassy urged citizens to monitor developments closely, adhere strictly to official guidance, and strengthen all precautionary measures to mitigate potential threats.
Security concerns for Chinese nationals in the border region have grown following a series of targeted attacks over the past months. Notably: On 26 November 2025, an armed assault in Shamsiddin Shohin, Khatlon province, Tajikistan, resulted in the deaths of three Chinese citizens and injuries to another. A second attack on 30 November 2025 in the same area caused additional casualties among Chinese nationals, prompting Beijing to issue a prior security alert.
“These incidents highlight the persistent and evolving threat environment along the Afghan-Tajik frontier,” the embassy said. “Chinese citizens and companies operating in these areas must take immediate steps to ensure personal safety and protect assets.”
The embassy confirmed that it remains in close contact with local authorities and security forces in Tajikistan and Afghanistan, actively monitoring developments and coordinating emergency measures for Chinese nationals in affected regions.
Analysts warn that regional instability, militant infiltration, and cross-border attacks have created a high-risk environment, making enhanced security measures and timely evacuation critical.
The embassy reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives and interests of Chinese citizens abroad and called on nationals to exercise extreme caution, follow official guidance, and avoid travel to high-risk border zones until further notice.
