Indian-backed terrorists of the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) carried out coordinated attacks on a police station and a bank in Balochistan’s Kharan district but were repulsed following a swift and effective response by security forces, resulting in multiple militant casualties.
Security sources said between 50 and 60 heavily armed terrorists entered Kharan city on motorcycles and launched a series of planned assaults at different locations. According to initial information, a group of 20 to 25 terrorists attacked the Kharan police station, engaging personnel in intense firing to divert attention, while another group attempted to loot a bank.
Targeting civilian areas and soft targets was reported to be part of the attackers’ broader plan.
Upon receiving information about the attacks, contingents of the Frontier Corps (FC) and other security agencies were immediately dispatched to the area. However, the terrorists had already set up roadblocks at various points in the city and opened fire on advancing forces from nearby hilly terrain.
Security forces responded effectively, engaging the attackers and preventing further damage. According to security officials, at least five terrorists were killed during the initial clashes. Subsequent operations in adjoining areas, following reports of militant presence, led to the killing of an additional two to three terrorists.
Sustained pressure forced the remaining attackers to flee the area.
Sources said heavy exchanges of fire continued for some time in different parts of the city, including the red zone, as security forces tightened the cordon and worked to regain full control. Reports of the presence of armed militants in surrounding areas prompted continued operations to neutralise any remaining threats.
Authorities said search and combing operations would continue until the area is fully cleared. Additional security personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of civilians, while residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
