Punjab Govt, Religious Bodies Reach Agreement on Madrasa Registration Under NAP Framework

Punjab, Agreement on Madrasa Registration, NAP Framework, National Action Plan (NAP), Extremist Indoctrination

The Punjab government has reached an agreement with religious scholars and the Ittehad Tanzeemat-e-Madaris on the registration of madrasas, ending four months of consultations on the issue. The move is part of broader efforts under the National Action Plan (NAP) to bring transparency, regulation, and oversight to religious educational institutions in the province.

According to the Punjab Home Department, all concerns raised by scholars and madrasa organizations have been addressed. In line with the recommendations from these consultations, an online registration system has been developed to simplify and streamline the process.

Officials said the formal registration process will begin on February 3, allowing madrasas to register their operations in a manner that is transparent, accountable, and acceptable to all stakeholders.

The Home Department emphasized that all decisions regarding madrasa registration were taken in close consultation with religious authorities to avoid misunderstandings or objections.

By bringing madrasas under formal registration and monitoring, authorities aim to ensure that NAP objectives—particularly those related to preventing extremism and ensuring ideological oversight—are strengthened. This system will enable provincial authorities to monitor curricula, teacher qualifications, and student enrolment, reducing the risk of institutions operating without regulatory oversight and limiting the potential for extremist indoctrination.
