Security forces killed a suicide bomber belonging to the banned Gul Bahadur group during an intelligence based operation in North Waziristan, security sources said.
The slain suicide bomber was identified as Mehdi, who had been involved for the past two years in the training and planning of suicide attacks, according to the sources.
They said Mehdi was affiliated with Jaish-e-Fursan Muhammad, a faction of the banned Gul Bahadur group, and was part of its specialised suicide wing known as the Khalid bin Waleed Suicide Unit.
According to security officials, the suicide bomber, along with other militants, was planning an ambush when security forces engaged the group and killed him.
Sources said the timely operation foiled a major terrorist plan and prevented a potential attack in the area.
