Tajikistan’s border forces successfully neutralized an armed incursion from Afghanistan, though tragically, two servicemen lost their lives during the operation.
Authorities from the State Committee for National Security reported that three individuals illegally crossed into Tajik territory near Border Outpost No. 5 “Bog” in the Qavoq area of Shamsiddin Shohin District. The breach was detected late on the night of December 24, and following coordinated operational measures, the intruders were located on Tajik soil the following morning.
When ordered to surrender, the group refused and opened fire on border guards, prompting an immediate combat response. All three intruders were killed in the engagement. Two Tajik border servicemen, Navruzbekov Zirehbon Naghzibekovich and Qurbonov Ismatullo Ghulomovich, were also killed while defending the nation’s border.
Officials stated that this incident marks the third case in the past month involving armed violence, terrorist activity, or unauthorized crossings from Afghanistan into Tajikistan. The State Committee for National Security emphasized that operations to secure the border remain ongoing, with comprehensive measures continuing to prevent future illegal crossings.
“The Republic of Tajikistan remains unwavering in its commitment to protect its borders and ensure the safety of its citizens,” said the State Committee for National Security. “Our border forces will continue to act decisively against any threats to national security.”
