Residents of Tirah Valley have agreed to support relocation following assurances from authorities addressing 27 key demands aimed at ensuring peace and the elimination of terrorism in the region. The guarantees were secured from the Chief Justice, Interior Minister, Corps Commander Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, and Commander of the 27th Brigade, who acted as guarantors.
Under the agreement, residents will return within two months. Each family is to receive a payment of PKR 700,000, along with transportation and essential supplies upon return. During relocation, their belongings will not be inspected or confiscated, and registration of vehicles in Tirah will be allowed, with coordination with Peshawar authorities.
Other assurances include compensation for government-occupied land, and for homes damaged during operations: fully destroyed homes will be compensated at PKR 8 million, while partially damaged homes will receive PKR 4 million. Educational activities will resume, including the establishment of a cadet college and girls’ schools in every tribal area. Hospitals will be upgraded, and link roads along with terraced roads at mountain bases will be constructed under the guidance of local elders.
Tirah Maidan will be designated as a provincial constituency, with water, electricity, and gas facilities ensured. Business losses will be addressed through a special package and interest-free loans. Additionally, checks for homes damaged since 2014 will be issued to affected families.
The agreement marks a significant step toward stabilising Tirah Valley, balancing security operations with the welfare and rights of local residents.
