More than one thousand Afghan clerics and prominent religious scholars have affirmed that Afghanistan’s territory will not be allowed to be used against any state, declaring the defence of the country’s sovereignty, values and Islamic system a “religious obligation” upon every citizen. The announcement came during a major gathering held in Kabul, where participants expressed deep concern over what they described as violations of Afghanistan’s sovereignty and external threats to the country’s stability.
In their collective statement, the clerics said that safeguarding Afghanistan’s rights, honour and the Sharia-based governance structure constituted a fard-e-ayn—an individual duty on every Afghan. They added that confronting any external aggression would be deemed a “sacred jihad,” reflecting the gravity with which the assembly viewed the current situation.
The gathering issued a firm admonition to the Islamic Emirate, urging it to ensure that no individual leaves the country for the purpose of engaging in military activities abroad. They stressed that Afghan soil must not be used under any circumstances for hostile actions against any neighbouring state or foreign nation. The scholars maintained that any violation of this principle would entitle the Islamic Emirate to take appropriate action against the offenders.
The Kabul assembly, attended by approximately one thousand scholars and religious elders from across the country, conducted an extensive review of the perceived threats facing Afghanistan’s sovereignty. The participants emphasised unity, national cohesion and strict adherence to policies that prevent foreign interference and cross-border militancy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a formal resolution was presented, reiterating key principles related to peace, the preservation of national sovereignty and respect for Afghanistan’s internal order. The resolution underscored that Afghanistan seeks peaceful relations with all neighbours and the wider international community, while maintaining a firm stance on protecting its territorial integrity.
The assembly’s declaration reflects the continued emphasis within Afghanistan’s religious leadership on maintaining internal stability, preventing the misuse of Afghan territory and upholding the country’s Islamic governance framework.
