Pakistan’s security forces destroyed three posts of the Afghan Taliban regime and killed at least 23 of its soldiers in a decisive and forceful response to a major ceasefire violation along the Chaman border between Friday night and Saturday, well-placed sources confirmed.
According to a report in The News, the confrontation began around midnight when Afghan Taliban regime soldiers breached the ceasefire and opened unprovoked small arms fire along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border in the Chaman Sector of Balochistan. According to official sources, the firing was carried out without provocation, in clear violation of international law and established ceasefire protocols.
Pakistan’s security forces immediately retaliated with small arms fire, precisely engaging the Afghan Taliban positions from where the aggression originated. Local sources said the exchange continued intermittently for nearly 45 minutes.
To prevent further escalation and to deliver a firm deterrent, Pakistan’s security forces then employed heavy weapons, including rocket launchers, mortars and heavier direct-fire systems. This escalation resulted in the complete destruction of three Afghan Taliban regime posts. “Precision weapons were used to avoid any collateral damage to innocent Afghan population,” the sources emphasised, adding that more than two dozen Afghan Taliban soldiers were killed during this phase.
Afghan troops subsequently abandoned their positions and retreated towards civilian areas in an apparent attempt to exploit populated zones for another round of small arms fire. Pakistan’s forces responded once again with heavy weaponry, including the deployment of armed swarm drones. This second strike left more than two dozen Afghan Taliban personnel confirmed dead, with several others sustaining injuries.
After suffering significant losses, Taliban forces raised white flags and issued announcements calling for a halt to hostilities. Pakistan’s security forces allowed Afghan Taliban personnel to carry out casualty evacuation covering both the dead and the injured under close surveillance. Post-engagement assessment confirmed at least 23 deaths and multiple injuries on the Afghan Taliban side.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Spokesperson for Foreign Media, Mosharraf Zaidi, stated that Afghan forces had carried out “unprovoked firing” along the Chaman border. “Pakistan remains fully alert and committed to ensuring its territorial integrity and the safety of our citizens,” he said.
Meanwhile, Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistan of launching attacks in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. His deputy, Hamdullah Fitra, told Reuters that shelling by Pakistan had killed five people, including a Taliban member.
