The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced that the peace jirga scheduled for November 12 will be convened in the provincial assembly to address law and order concerns and coordinate security operations. The jirga’s declaration will be circulated to the federal government and all security agencies and presented in the Apex Committee immediately following the session.
The jirga will be attended by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, while Speaker Babar Saleem Swati will host the proceedings. Over 20 political parties, including ANP, PPP, PML-N, JUI, JI, National Awami Party, and PML-Q, along with bar councils, lawyers, and civil society representatives, have confirmed participation. Special passes have been issued to attendees, and strict measures will bar unrelated individuals from entering. Seating has been arranged for 400 participants, and a list of approximately 40 speakers has been prepared.
A comprehensive security plan has been put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the jirga. Sources confirmed that the Chief Minister and Speaker will jointly issue the jirga’s declaration, which will outline decisions and strategies for maintaining peace in the province. The declaration will also be shared with the federal government and all relevant security institutions, with an Apex Committee meeting scheduled immediately afterward to review and implement its recommendations.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s initiative underscores its commitment to maintaining law and order while fostering collaboration among political parties, civil society, and security agencies to strengthen provincial stability.
