Pakistan Slams India for Distorting Trump’s Remarks on Nuclear Testing

Pakistan has strongly condemned India for deliberately misrepresenting U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks, accusing New Delhi of twisting facts to falsely link the President’s comments on nuclear testing with Pakistan’s historical record. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that India’s attempts to malign Pakistan are baseless, misleading, and aimed at diverting attention from its own chronic nuclear security lapses.

The Foreign Office clarified that Pakistan conducted its last nuclear tests in May 1998 and has consistently maintained a principled stance on nuclear testing. Islamabad has repeatedly supported United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for a comprehensive ban on nuclear tests. In contrast, India’s inconsistent position on such resolutions reflects its ambiguous and potentially reckless approach to future nuclear activities.

Pakistan’s nuclear program operates under a strong command-and-control structure, with rigorous export controls and a flawless record of adherence to the global non-proliferation regime. Allegations of “secret or illicit nuclear activities” by India are unfounded, malicious, and part of a calculated effort to mislead international opinion.

The Ministry highlighted India’s alarming track record on nuclear safety. Over the past decades, India has witnessed multiple incidents involving the theft or illegal smuggling of sensitive nuclear materials, exposing critical lapses in safeguarding its facilities. As recently as last year, highly radioactive materials, including Californium valued at over USD 10 million, were discovered at India’s Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and reportedly available for illicit sale.

These repeated lapses indicate an active illicit nuclear market in India for sensitive and dual-use materials. Pakistan warned that such deficiencies pose serious risks to both regional and global security, urging the international community to take these threats seriously.

The Foreign Office reaffirmed that Pakistan remains fully committed to responsible nuclear stewardship, global non-proliferation norms, and regional peace, while calling on India to address its reckless nuclear practices instead of deflecting scrutiny onto Pakistan.
