Four terrorists were killed and several others injured in an exchange of fire with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and police in the jurisdiction of Cantonment Police Station, Bannu, on Thursday.
According to officials, the clash erupted when security forces launched an intelligence-based operation against suspected militants. During the crossfire, one police constable, Abid Khan, was martyred while nine other policemen and four civilians sustained injuries.
The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu, where an emergency was declared.
Following the incident, funeral prayers for the martyred policeman were offered with full official honours at Police Lines Bannu. Police and Pakistan Army officers, relatives of the martyr, and local citizens attended the ceremony.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Salim Abbas, vowed to intensify operations against terrorists, saying police are fully prepared to deal with all kinds of situations. He said the sacrifice of the martyred officer would not go in vain and the perpetrators would be brought to justice soon.
