In a fresh wave of violence, unidentified armed men launched coordinated attacks in Balochistan on Tuesday evening torching a police station in Kachhi district and hurling hand grenades at a security checkpost on Quetta’s Western Bypass, officials confirmed.
According to official reports, around two dozen heavily armed assailants stormed the recently established Kathaan Police Station in Kachhi. The station, set up in a Livestock Department building following the merger of Levies personnel into the police, came under fire before the attackers broke in and set official documents and furniture ablaze.
The assailants looted two rifles including an SMG and a G-3 along with a mobile phone and a private motorcycle before fleeing into the surrounding area. “Due to the large number of attackers, the former Levies personnel stationed nearby could not effectively respond. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries occurred,” a senior police official said.
Soon after the incident, police and security forces rushed to the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a joint search operation to locate the perpetrators. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Sibi Range has initiated an investigation into the attack.
In a separate incident the same evening, unidentified motorcycle riders attacked a security checkpost on Quetta’s Western Bypass with hand grenades. Police officials said the attackers threw two grenades, both of which exploded near the post but caused no casualties. Security personnel retaliated with gunfire, but the attackers managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Following the assault, a search operation was launched in the vicinity to track down the culprits.
Officials described both incidents as part of a disturbing pattern of targeted strikes against law enforcement installations in Balochistan, aimed at undermining the state’s security apparatus and spreading fear among the local population.
