A major terrorist attempt to blow up a bridge in the Gomal area of Tank district was successfully thwarted by Tank Police, officials confirmed on Monday.
According to the Directorate of Public Relations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, the action was carried out on credible intelligence, under the direct supervision of IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, as part of the force’s ongoing strategy of proactive policing to counter subversive threats before execution.
The targeted bridge, located in the Kot Addam area within Gomal Police Station limits, had been rigged with an improvised explosive device (IED) by militants. Acting swiftly, Gomal Police cordoned off the area, and a Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) team was deployed to neutralise the explosive device, preventing any damage to public infrastructure.
Speaking on the operation, DPO Tank Shabbir Hussain Shah emphasized that all elements involved in targeting public infrastructure or aiding terrorist agendas will be dealt with an iron hand.
“We’ve already initiated a wave of intelligence-based operations to root out all anti-state actors. This campaign will continue until every last threat is eliminated,” the DPO stated.
The successful operation is being hailed as yet another example of heightened vigilance and operational readiness by the KP Police in the face of rising security threats.
