At least six people were killed and over 20 injured in a deadly attack on a central judicial complex in Zahedan, the capital of Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, after armed assailants stormed the courthouse in a coordinated assault. According to Iranian authorities, security forces swiftly responded to the attack and managed to neutralize three of the gunmen during the ensuing clash. The injured were immediately transported to nearby hospitals, and a heightened security alert has been declared across the city.
The Sunni Baloch group Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for the assault, referring to the operation as “Bazwān-e-Adalat” or “Arm of Justice.” The group, which has previously carried out attacks targeting Iranian security installations, stated that the operation was a response to what it described as systemic repression in the province.
Officials have launched a full-scale investigation into the attack, while security forces have cordoned off the area and intensified patrols in and around key government installations across Zahedan.
The province of Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan, has long been a flashpoint for ethnic and sectarian tensions, with Sunni Baloch groups frequently accusing Iranian authorities of discrimination and heavy-handed security operations. No details have yet been released regarding the identities of the attackers or the victims. Iranian media reports indicate that further updates are expected as the situation develops.
