In a high stakes intelligence-led operation, Swat Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully thwarted an attempted infiltration by Khawarij operatives in the mountainous terrain of Matta Tehsil, injuring two while the rest fled under fire. The operation, carried out under the direct supervision of senior law enforcement officials, marks a decisive blow against efforts to destabilize the region.
The action comes in response to directives issued by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, who had earlier instructed all regional and district police chiefs to remain on high alert and intensify surveillance of Khawarij movements across the province. Leveraging human intelligence and technical monitoring, law enforcement agencies detected an infiltration attempt through the Dir-Swat corridor by Khawarij elements aiming to regroup in the area.
On receiving actionable intelligence, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Division, Sher Akbar Khan, ordered the formation of specialized response teams under the command of District Police Officer (DPO) Swat, Muhammad Umar Khan. Joint units comprising Swat Police and CTD personnel were rapidly deployed and established ambush positions in the rugged mountains of Matta.
The Khawarij were intercepted in the Jargho hills within the jurisdiction of Gwaleri Police Station, where a fierce exchange of fire ensued. Demonstrating exceptional bravery and tactical precision, the joint force injured two Khawarij, forcing the remaining operatives to retreat while carrying their wounded. In the aftermath, Swat Police, CTD, and Elite Force units launched a full-scale joint search operation across the region to locate and neutralise the fleeing elements.
Commending the swift and effective response, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed lauded the courage and professionalism of the personnel involved. “Swat Police and CTD have once again proven that the Khawarij have no safe haven in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he stated. “We will pursue them to the very end, wherever they hide, to ensure peace and security for our people.”
Security forces remain on high alert, and the joint operation will continue until the region is fully cleared of Khawarij presence.
