British Minister for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan emphasizes diplomatic engagement, regional stability, and enhanced security partnership with Pakistan
The United Kingdom has called for renewed dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan amid ongoing regional tensions, reaffirming its commitment to supporting peace, stability, and strengthened counterterrorism cooperation in the region.
During an official visit to Islamabad, the UK Minister for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Hamish Falconer, emphasized the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement between the two neighboring countries to address emerging security challenges and reduce tensions.
As part of his visit, Minister Falconer held meetings with Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ambassador Sadiq, where discussions focused on the evolving situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with particular emphasis on encouraging a return to dialogue and exploring avenues for regional stability.
According to a statement issued by the UK High Commission in Pakistan, the discussions also highlighted the need for coordinated international efforts to address the threat of terrorism emanating from the region, with the United Kingdom expressing readiness to support initiatives aimed at enhancing counterterrorism cooperation.
The UK reiterated its firm commitment to secure borders and national security, stating that building and strengthening international partnerships remains central to addressing shared security challenges. The statement further underscored that deeper UK-Pakistan cooperation is essential not only for regional stability but also for broader global security interests.
As part of its ongoing engagement, the United Kingdom reaffirmed its support for Pakistan’s counterterrorism capacity-building efforts, including training programs designed to enhance the ability of civilian institutions to investigate and prosecute terrorism-related cases effectively.
The British government emphasized that sustained cooperation between international partners is critical to addressing complex security threats, particularly those that transcend borders and require coordinated responses.
The UK also highlighted that strengthening the Pakistan-UK partnership remains a priority, particularly in areas related to security, counterterrorism, and regional diplomacy. It noted that continued collaboration will contribute to improving institutional capacity and reinforcing efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms.
