Two children were killed and five others injured after terrorists carried out a hand grenade attack on a madrassa in the Saryab Mill area of Quetta, police said.
According to police, terrorists targeted the Imdadiyah Madrassa by throwing a hand grenade, causing casualties among the children present at the religious institution.
Initial reports suggest that two children lost their lives in the explosion, while five others sustained injuries. Two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition and are receiving medical treatment.
Soon after the incident, rescue teams and police personnel reached the site. The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta for emergency treatment, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to collect evidence and trace the attackers.
Security officials are examining evidence gathered from the scene, including the nature of the explosive device used in the attack, to determine the method of the terrorist attack and identify those responsible.
The attack on the madrassa comes amid continued attempts by terrorist groups to spread fear by targeting vulnerable sections of society and carrying out attacks in populated areas. Religious institutions, educational facilities and public places have repeatedly remained targets of terrorist violence aimed at creating insecurity among communities.
Security forces have intensified efforts to track down those involved in the attack, while further investigations are underway to determine whether the incident is linked to any organized terrorist network operating in the region.
