TTP Commanders Facing Arrests Amid Growing Rift with Afghan Taliban

Reports circulating on social media and militant channels suggest that several Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commanders, including the notorious figure Ghazi Ghazwan, have been detained by the Afghan Taliban. Although there is no official confirmation, even members of TTP-linked groups have admitted online that many of their fighters are currently in the custody of the “Islamic Emirate.”

This development underscores the growing mistrust between the Afghan Taliban and militant groups operating in the region. Over the past two years, many Pakistani militants had crossed into Afghanistan, finding safe havens and joining TTP ranks to carry out cross-border attacks against Pakistan. However, as pressure mounts from the international community and from Islamabad, the Afghan Taliban appear to be clamping down on those groups that have become a liability.

TTP and allied networks accuse the Taliban government of secretly cooperating with Pakistan by restricting their movements and targeting their bases. The arrests have deepened the divisions within militant ranks, exposing their weakening influence. Analysts believe the rift could further isolate these groups and reduce their ability to operate across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
