A mosque was damaged in a terrorist attack after explosives planted by terrorists detonated in the Lachi area of Kohat district, police said on Tuesday.
According to police, terrorists had planted explosive material inside Masjid Abu Bakr (RA) in the village of Darmalak Harnato, within the jurisdiction of Lachi Police Station. The explosives detonated during the night, completely destroying two rooms of the mosque and causing extensive structural damage to the building.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as the mosque was unoccupied at the time of the explosion.
Police and security personnel rushed to the site soon after the blast, cordoned off the area, and launched an investigation. A search operation was also initiated to trace those responsible for the attack, while forensic teams collected evidence from the blast site.
Officials believe the attack was intended to spread fear among local residents and undermine peace in the area by targeting a place of worship. Security has since been heightened around sensitive locations, including mosques and other public places, to prevent similar incidents.
The latest attack comes amid continued counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces and law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent attacks on civilians, public infrastructure, and religious sites. Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that those involved in targeting places of worship are held accountable.
