Taliban Intelligence Director and Son Killed in Accidental Blast in Kunar’s Shigal District

Local sources have confirmed that Shabir Ahmad, the Taliban’s intelligence director for Shigal district in Kunar province, was killed along with his son in an explosion.

According to sources, the incident occurred around noon when Ahmad’s son was reportedly handling a mortar shell inside the room where the family was living. The device exploded, killing the son instantly and leaving Ahmad and his brother, who also served as his bodyguard, critically injured.

Shabir Ahmad later succumbed to his wounds in a hospital in Kunar province, while his brother sustained injuries in the blast.

Sources said Ahmad was originally from Ghaziabad district of Kunar and had been appointed as the Taliban’s intelligence chief for Shigal district following the group’s takeover of Afghanistan.

Local Taliban officials in Kunar have not yet issued any statement regarding the incident.
