A senior leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Maulana Hafiz Gul, was seriously wounded after unidentified assailants opened fire on him in the Mahmoodabad area of Chaman, officials confirmed.
According to Levies officials, Maulana Hafiz Gul, who serves as the deputy district ameer of JUI-F in Chaman, sustained two bullet wounds when gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted him in a sudden and brazen attack. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Emergency response teams and law enforcement personnel rushed to the site and provided initial medical assistance before transporting the injured leader to a local hospital. He was later shifted to Quetta in critical condition for advanced treatment.
“The nature of the attack indicates a targeted attempt on the life of the JUI-F leader,” a Levies official stated, adding that a full-scale investigation has been launched and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident has sparked outrage within JUI-F ranks. Party leaders condemned the attack in the strongest terms, calling it an assault not just on an individual but on democratic political expression. They urged the government to bring the assailants to justice without delay and to enhance the security of political figures in volatile regions.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have not ruled out any motive, including political or sectarian angles. Security in Chaman and surrounding areas has since been tightened as investigators gather evidence and conduct search operations.
