Security forces are currently engaged in a major counterterrorism operation in Shangla, where they have so far killed three militants linked to the proscribed group Fitna al-Khawarij, official sources confirmed Saturday.
According to initial reports, intelligence agencies received a tip-off regarding the presence of around 15 militants in the area. Acting swiftly, security forces launched an operation and cordoned off the suspected location.
As the troops approached, the terrorists opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response. In the ensuing gun battle, three militants were neutralized. The remaining militants reportedly attempted to flee but were unsuccessful in breaking the siege.
Sources say the operation is still ongoing, and further details are expected once the area is fully secured.
“Security forces have surrounded the remaining terrorists and are determined to eliminate the threat completely,” a source familiar with the operation said.
The offensive is part of Pakistan’s broader campaign to root out terrorism from restive regions and ensure long-term peace and stability.
