Security forces eliminated four terrorists and injured two others after coming under attack during a routine patrol in Raghizai village of Shewa tehsil in North Waziristan, security sources said on Thursday.
According to the sources, terrorists associated with Fitna al-Khawarij opened fire on security forces while they were conducting a patrol in the area. The forces responded immediately and pursued the attackers as they attempted to move away from the scene.
The pursuit led to an intense exchange of fire between the two sides. Four terrorists were killed during the gunbattle, while two others sustained injuries, the sources said.
The bodies of the eliminated terrorists were shifted to the headquarters hospital for identification and other formalities.
Following the clash, security forces tightened security measures across the area and launched a search operation to trace any remaining terrorists who may be hiding in the vicinity.
Security forces have continued intelligence-based and area-clearance operations across North Waziristan, a district that has repeatedly faced terrorist activity because of its proximity to the Afghan border.
