RAW-Linked Troll Network and Afghan Accounts Accused of Anti-Pakistan Propaganda

A coordinated online disinformation campaign targeting Pakistan has been exposed after a network of social media accounts allegedly linked to hostile propaganda ecosystems attempted to spread false claims regarding a recent security incident in the region.

Analysts monitoring digital information flows say the narrative originated from a social media handle known as Info Monitor, which they describe as a non-credible source with a history of amplifying anti-Pakistan content. According to observers, the account is part of a broader disinformation ecosystem linked to actors aligned with India’s external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), as well as propaganda networks sympathetic to the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan.

Information analysts say the campaign began when pro-India troll accounts attempted to promote a claim implicating Pakistan in a regional security incident. However, the allegation reportedly lacked verifiable evidence and failed to gain traction in mainstream discourse.

When the narrative struggled to gain momentum, several Afghan-linked propaganda accounts allegedly joined the campaign, amplifying the same claims across social media platforms in what analysts describe as a coordinated attempt to implicate Pakistan in a foreign conflict.

Observers say such information operations are designed to create confusion, influence public perception, and undermine Pakistan’s diplomatic position in sensitive regional matters.

Officials reiterated that Pakistan’s stance on regional tensions remains consistent and principled. Islamabad continues to position itself as a stabilising actor in regional security, advocating diplomacy, restraint, and dialogue among states. Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised that disputes in the region particularly those involving Iran and other Middle Eastern partners should be resolved through negotiation rather than escalation.

Diplomatic sources say this approach aims to prevent wider conflict and maintain stability across the broader region. Analysts note that such a stance contrasts sharply with narratives promoted by disinformation networks that often seek to inflame tensions.

The controversy also drew attention after British political commentator and former lawmaker George Galloway cited the unverified claim while discussing the incident online.

Media observers say the reference to a non-verified source has raised concerns about the importance of fact-checking in an era of rapidly spreading digital misinformation. Experts stress that public figures and commentators carry particular responsibility to verify information before amplifying claims originating from anonymous or unverified accounts.

Security sources further clarified that the attack on the Iranian town of Saravan was carried out from a United States naval vessel operating in the Arabian Sea. According to these assessments, the nature of the operation did not require access to Pakistani airspace, contradicting allegations circulated by online propaganda networks attempting to implicate Pakistan. Experts warn that digital propaganda and coordinated disinformation campaigns have increasingly become tools of geopolitical competition, particularly in regions marked by complex security dynamics.

Analysts say such campaigns often rely on anonymous accounts, coordinated messaging, and the rapid amplification of unverified claims to shape public narratives before accurate information can emerge. Officials emphasised that maintaining transparency, verifying sources, and promoting responsible journalism remain essential to countering such operations.
