Qatari police have arrested Parchoki Afghani, a local commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Kazim Group, according to local sources.
Sources said Parchoki Afghani had been involved in the sectarian conflict between Shia and Sunni tribes in Kurram district and had played a role in the tensions that have persisted in the region.
His activities were primarily linked to the sectarian violence and unrest in Kurram, sources said, adding that his arrest in Qatar could provide law-enforcement authorities with further information about the network and activities of the TTP faction.
The arrest comes against the backdrop of prolonged sectarian tensions in Kurram, where clashes between rival tribal groups have repeatedly disrupted peace and caused casualties and displacement.
Further details about the circumstances of Parchoki Afghani’s arrest, including the grounds for his detention and any possible legal proceedings in Qatar, were not immediately available.
