A grenade attack targeting a police check post was foiled in Peshawar after the hand grenade thrown by terrorists became trapped in a protective net installed around the post and failed to explode, police sources said.
The attack took place at the Sheikhhan police check post in the limits of Badaber police station, where unidentified terrorists targeted the security post with a hand grenade. The attackers reportedly threw the grenade toward the check post, but the protective net surrounding the position intercepted the device before it could reach the police personnel or the main structure.
The grenade remained caught in the net without exploding, preventing what could have caused casualties and damage at the police post. The failure of the attack was attributed to the protective measures in place around the check post.
Following the incident, police immediately alerted the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), which was dispatched to the site to safely examine and neutralize the grenade. Police personnel also cordoned off the area as a precautionary measure and restricted movement around the check post.
A search operation was subsequently launched in the surrounding area to trace the attackers and determine the direction from which the grenade was thrown. Security personnel were conducting searches of nearby locations and routes that could have been used by the attackers to approach or flee the area.
No casualties were reported in the incident, while the grenade’s failure to explode prevented damage to the police post.
The attack comes amid continued security concerns in and around Peshawar, where police and other security installations remain potential targets of terrorist attacks. Security personnel have increased vigilance around check posts and other sensitive locations following a series of attacks targeting law-enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police officials said further details about the incident and the progress of the search operation would emerge after the BDU completed its examination and investigators assessed the scene.
