Pakistani Ambassador Signals Islamabad’s Role in Resolving U.S.-Iran Dispute

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and constructive diplomacy in the region, highlighting the country’s active role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.

In an exclusive interview with a leading U.S. media outlet, Ambassador Sheikh provided a detailed analysis of the current regional dynamics, underscoring Pakistan’s efforts to act as a mediator in the ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington. He emphasized that Pakistan’s offer of mediation is rooted in broader regional interests and reflects the trust both parties have placed in Islamabad to play a neutral and constructive role.

“Peace is the only path forward,” Ambassador Sheikh stated, emphasizing that Pakistan’s diplomatic history has always been linked to promoting stability and cooperation in South Asia. “Our recent offer to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the U.S. is made in good faith and includes the engagement of other regional stakeholders. Negotiations are a gradual process that requires patience and sustained effort, but we firmly believe in the power of dialogue.”

The Ambassador stressed that Pakistan is prepared to provide all necessary support to enable productive negotiations. However, he clarified that final decisions must ultimately be made by the relevant parties themselves. “Pakistan always considers diplomacy and negotiation to be the most effective means for resolving conflicts,” he noted.

Addressing concerns about terrorism, Ambassador Sheikh highlighted that Pakistan continues to face the brunt of cross-border militant activity. Despite repeated identification of terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan, Islamabad has had to take action to protect its citizens. He stated, “Pakistan cannot stand by while our people fall victim to terrorism. There is clear evidence that certain elements receive external support, and some attacks against Pakistan have been linked to Indian sponsorship.”

Ambassador Sheikh reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to fostering peace, stability, and constructive diplomacy across the region. He emphasized that Islamabad will continue to play a proactive role in promoting dialogue, while simultaneously safeguarding national security interests.
