Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in the Khuziyai Darpa Khel area of Miranshah in North Waziristan after receiving reports about the presence of terrorists in the region, sources said.
According to sources, security personnel launched the operation late at night and cordoned off the area before advancing towards suspected hideouts. Heavy exchange of fire reportedly took place during the operation.
Sources confirmed that at least six terrorists were eliminated during the action. However, the identities of the slain militants could not immediately be confirmed.
Security forces have sealed all entry and exit points of the area, while a clearance and search operation is still underway to eliminate any remaining militants and ensure the area is secure.
The region has witnessed several intelligence-based operations in recent months as security forces continue actions against militant networks operating in North Waziristan and adjoining tribal districts.
No official statement has yet been issued regarding possible casualties among security personnel.
