The National Mobilization Front of Afghanistan (NMF) today issued a stern warning to the Government of India, alleging that continued support or engagement with the Taliban and other armed groups inside Afghanistan reportedly in exchange for contracts and security assurances would amount to self-inflicted harm and jeopardize regional stability. The NMF said such ties risk undermining Afghanistan’s struggle for freedom, emboldening violent actors, and creating shared responsibility for the collapse of a sovereign, free Afghanistan.
In its statement, the NMF described the Taliban as “a disgraced and immoral remnant” whose actions have damaged Afghanistan’s international standing, and said that outside support only strengthens terrorist networks and weakens the position of anti-Taliban groups. The Front emphasized that cooperation with armed groups for short-term, self-interested gains will run counter to the aspirations and sacrifices of generations of Afghans.
The NMF recalled the long history of resistance in Afghanistan citing the sacrifices of thousands of men and women over the past 150 years and specifically the years 1298 (solar) and 1980 (Gregorian) and urged the people of India to stand, alongside Afghans, for justice and freedom rather than align with forces the Front considers violent extremists.
The statement called on the Indian government to immediately sever diplomatic and material relations with the Taliban and other militant groups, and warned that failure to do so would leave India responsible for any consequences that follow. The NMF also appealed respectfully to the “righteous people of India” to support the cause of Afghan freedom rather than back actors the Front says threaten it.
