Misinformation Alert: Pakistan Urges Vigilance Against Indian Fake News Targeting Its Diplomacy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong warning regarding a surge in disinformation and fabricated reports targeting Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements, particularly in the context of the ongoing Iran–United States tensions.

In an official statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andarabi stated that a number of misleading and false narratives are being circulated, originating from Indian sources as well as certain external platforms. These reports, he emphasized, are part of a deliberate attempt to undermine Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in the region.

“The fake news industry targeting Pakistan’s diplomacy has been exposed,” the spokesperson said, cautioning the public and media to remain vigilant against unverified information. He stressed that such narratives are not only misleading but also aimed at distorting facts and creating confusion at a sensitive time.

The Foreign Office further highlighted a recent incident in which a statement falsely attributed to the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was widely circulated. The Iranian authorities subsequently issued a clarification, confirming that the statement had been misrepresented.

Officials noted that individuals and platforms responsible for spreading such misinformation are engaged in deliberate falsehoods, undermining responsible journalism and public trust. The Ministry urged media organizations and the public to rely only on verified and official sources for accurate information.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to transparency and responsible diplomacy, the Foreign Office emphasized that the country will continue its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, while actively countering disinformation campaigns through factual clarification and official communication.

The Ministry concluded by advising citizens and media stakeholders to exercise caution and refrain from amplifying unverified claims, particularly those originating from sources with a record of disseminating false information.
