Following the tragic attack on the Police Post at Mangi Dam Pumping Station-III, various misleading narratives, disinformation campaigns, and speculative reports have circulated on social and digital media. In the interest of transparency and to present an accurate account of the incident, the following official sequence of events is being shared.
On 6 July 2026, approximately 40 police personnel, operating under the command of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were deployed at Mangi Dam Pumping Station-III. The deployment had been reinforced in advance based on credible intelligence warnings indicating the possibility of a militant attack in the area.
The nearest Frontier Corps (FC) post was located approximately 20 kilometres from the pumping station and was manned by 15 to 20 FC personnel.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., the police post came under intermittent long-range fire from armed Khawarij positioned in the surrounding mountainous terrain. Given that the post was fully manned and adequately equipped for defensive operations, the commanding officer initially decided that the attack could be effectively contained by the personnel already deployed.
The police officers and personnel displayed exceptional courage, maintaining their defensive positions while responding effectively to hostile fire. Throughout the engagement, continuous communication was maintained with Police Headquarters as well as the nearby Frontier Corps post.
Recognizing the evolving operational situation, Police Headquarters, as a precautionary measure, immediately dispatched more than 30 additional Special Police Force personnel to reinforce the position.
Simultaneously, the Frontier Corps deployed armed helicopters to provide aerial surveillance and operational support. Upon the arrival of the helicopters, the Khawarij dispersed and concealed themselves within mountain caves, rocky crevices, and natural cover, making them difficult to engage from the air.
After the aerial assets departed, the Khawarij resumed intermittent firing. Preliminary assessments indicate that this tactic was deliberately employed to prolong the engagement and deplete the ammunition reserves of the defending police personnel.
As darkness fell, the police personnel defending the pumping station began facing a critical shortage of ammunition due to the prolonged exchange of fire.
Meanwhile, as the reinforcing Special Police Force contingent advanced toward the pumping station, it also came under heavy fire from another group of Khawarij positioned along the approach route. Frontier Corps personnel immediately joined the engagement in support of the reinforcement column.
This resulted in two simultaneous battles: one at the pumping station itself and another along the route where the Special Police Force and Frontier Corps were attempting to reach the besieged post.
The difficult mountainous terrain, combined with continuous hostile fire, significantly complicated the movement of reinforcement forces. Despite these challenges, the police and Frontier Corps fought with remarkable determination and professionalism.
During the operation, security forces reportedly eliminated 15 Khawarij. The Frontier Corps also employed multiple operational assets, including surveillance drones, mortar fire, and Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) systems, to target hostile positions and support the advancing forces.
As the engagement continued into the night and ammunition at the pumping station became exhausted, the remaining personnel attempted to move toward safer defensive positions. Tragically, nine courageous police personnel embraced martyrdom during the fighting.
In the darkness, 18 police personnel, having exhausted their ammunition, became surrounded by Khawarij and were subsequently martyred. Approximately 14 personnel successfully reached secure positions during the withdrawal.
Throughout the operation, Frontier Corps and Special Police Force units continued advancing while engaging the attackers and pushing them back from their positions.
Security operations remain ongoing across the area. Police and Frontier Corps continue conducting coordinated clearance operations to eliminate any remaining hostile elements, secure the surrounding terrain, and prevent future attacks.
According to operational updates, an additional 11 Khawarij have since been neutralized during continuing operations, reflecting the sustained pressure being maintained against militant elements operating in the area.
The extraordinary courage, professionalism, and sacrifice demonstrated by the police officers, Frontier Corps personnel, and Special Police Force during this prolonged engagement exemplify their unwavering commitment to protecting the people of Pakistan. The martyrs laid down their lives in the line of duty while defending vital national infrastructure and safeguarding public security.
The sacrifices of these brave sons of the nation will never be forgotten. Their courage serves as a lasting inspiration to all members of the law enforcement community.
Security forces reaffirm their unwavering resolve to eliminate the menace of the Khawarij and all anti-state elements. Intelligence-based operations and coordinated counter-militancy efforts will continue with full determination until lasting peace, stability, and the writ of the State are fully restored throughout the region.
