Bannu Police have successfully foiled a potential sabotage attempt near the University of Science and Technology, Township, Bannu, after suspicious material was detected in the vicinity and subsequently rendered harmless by the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU).
Acting on the directives of DPO Bannu Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Furqan Bilal, police continue to undertake sustained operations against criminal and subversive elements across the district, with particular emphasis on safeguarding public spaces and critical installations.
As part of these ongoing security measures, SHO Township Police Station Javed Rasool Khan, along with a police team, responded immediately after receiving information regarding the presence of suspicious material near the University of Science and Technology in Township.
Upon receiving the information, the police team promptly reached the location and cordoned off the area, ensuring that members of the public were kept at a safe distance while the nature of the suspicious material was assessed.
The Bomb Disposal Unit was immediately called to the scene. After taking the necessary safety precautions, BDU personnel successfully neutralized and disposed of the explosive material in a controlled manner.
The timely intervention prevented a potentially serious incident and helped ensure the safety of residents, students, university personnel and communities in Bannu Township and surrounding areas. Following the successful disposal of the suspicious material, further legal proceedings and investigations are underway to determine the origin of the material, identify those responsible for placing it at the location, and establish the intended purpose behind the attempted act of sabotage.
Police authorities are examining all available information and pursuing relevant leads as part of the ongoing investigation.
