Security forces conducted a major intelligence-based operation in the Chamalang area of Balochistan after receiving reports regarding the presence of terrorists involved in extortion operations targeting mining interests in the region, security sources said.
According to officials, the operation was launched against armed terrorists accused of facilitating violence, intimidation, and illegal collection of extortion money from mining operations operating in remote parts of the province.
During the intense exchange of fire, security forces successfully neutralized eight terrorists. However, while leading the operation from the front, Pakistan Army officer Major Tauseef embraced martyrdom along with four soldiers while defending the country against terrorist elements.
Security officials stated that the operation targeted militants linked to networks involved not only in terrorism but also in financially sustaining insurgent activities through extortion, illegal taxation, and disruption of economic projects in Balochistan.
Sources added that fleeing terrorists are being pursued while clearance and search operations continue across the surrounding mountainous terrain to eliminate any remaining armed elements and dismantle possible hideouts.
Officials noted that terrorist groups operating in parts of Balochistan have increasingly attempted to target mining activity, local businesses, and development projects in an effort to undermine stability and create fear among local communities.
The latest operation comes amid intensified intelligence-based counterterrorism actions across Balochistan and adjoining regions, including recent successful operations in Kech district where security forces neutralized senior militant commander Sajjad Baloch and recovered foreign-made weapons and ammunition from terrorist hideouts.
Security officials reiterated that operations against terrorists and their facilitators would continue relentlessly until complete restoration of peace and the writ of the state across the province.
Authorities further emphasized that the sacrifices rendered by security personnel in Balochistan reflect Pakistan’s continued resolve to defeat terrorism and protect strategic national interests from hostile and externally backed militant networks.
