A quadcopter attack targeted a hujra belonging to a local peace committee chairman in the Kherokhel Pakka area of Lakki Marwat, where a gathering of local elders was underway at the time of the incident, police sources said.
Police sources confirmed that the unmanned aerial device struck the location during the meeting, injuring at least 18 people. Among the injured is also the father of the peace committee chairman Khalid Khan.
Sources said elders had gathered in the hujra for a routine community meeting when the attack occurred, triggering panic and chaos in the area.
The injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities, while the area was cordoned off for investigation. Authorities are collecting evidence to determine the nature of the attack and identify those responsible.
Such incidents are not without precedent in the region, where civilians and community gatherings have previously come under similar attacks in recent years.
