The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have been equipped with the latest bulletproof vehicles, drones, anti-drone technology, thermal guns, and sniper rifles to effectively counter the growing threat of terrorism across the province.
According to official details, during the fiscal year 2024–25, the process of armoring 105 vehicles including jeeps, double and single cabins, and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) is underway, out of which 75 bulletproof vehicles have already been handed over to regional and district police officers.
At this stage, seven districts Peshawar, Hangu, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and Bajaur have been provided with advanced surveillance drones, while sniper rifles have been distributed to police units in Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan.
The KP government, using its own resources, has produced 112 bulletproof vehicles at a total cost of Rs1.8 billion. According to provincial officials, the production costs varied by category: 15 Hilux vehicles were armored at Rs28 million each, 11 APCs at Rs119 million each, and 48 single-cabin vehicles at Rs1.65 million each.
Sources said most of the vehicles have been completed, while the remaining units are in the final stages of production. Districts including Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Upper South Waziristan, Bajaur, and Orakzai are also being allocated a share of the new bulletproof fleet.
The initiative marks a major step by the KP government toward enhancing the operational capacity and protection of its police force amid persistent security challenges in the region.
