An intensive operation by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) is underway inside the premises of Kohat Police Lines following an explosion and subsequent armed confrontation with Khawarij.
According to preliminary information, an explosion occurred within the Police Lines premises. Shortly afterwards, a suspected suicide attacker detonated himself near the Special Branch building, triggering an immediate security response and an exchange of fire between police personnel and Khawarij.
During the ongoing operation, one Khawarij sniper has been killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel. Police and CTD teams continue to conduct search and clearance activities inside the premises, with efforts focused on securing the area and eliminating the remaining threat.
According to information received so far, 16 people have been martyred, including five police personnel and 11 civilians. The casualty figures are preliminary and may be updated following further verification as the operation progresses.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and CTD have deployed available resources to contain the threat and maintain security within the Police Lines. Personnel remain engaged in the operation, while necessary security measures are being maintained in and around the affected area.
Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stated that the operation would continue until the complete elimination of Khawarij. He further stated that the morale of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remains high and reaffirmed the force’s determination to confront the Khawarij and bring those responsible to justice.
The IGP paid tribute to the police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and reaffirmed the unwavering resolve of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to protect the lives and security of the people.
