A Khawarij killed during a recent security operation in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been identified as an Afghan national and, according to security sources, a member of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).
The deceased Khawarij has been identified as Abdul Rehman, son of Amir Jan. According to sources, Abdul Rehman was an Afghan citizen and was associated with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Security officials reportedly recovered an SMG (sub-machine gun) licence from the deceased during the operation.
According to the information available to authorities, the document had reportedly been issued by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and authorized the possession of a weapon in Kabul and adjoining areas. The recovery of the document has prompted authorities to examine the circumstances under which an Afghan national allegedly linked to the IEA came to be present in Bannu and was involved in Khawarij activity in the area.
Officials have emphasized that the recovered document and other material obtained during the operation are currently undergoing further scrutiny and verification. Authorities are examining the authenticity and details of the recovered licence, the identity and background of the deceased, his alleged affiliation, and the circumstances surrounding his presence and activities in Pakistan.
The investigation is expected to provide greater clarity regarding the individual’s movements, associations and possible links with Khawarij elements operating in the region.
