A man accused of facilitating Khawarij was shot dead by police during an alleged escape attempt, shortly after he injured a police official in a gun attack in Dubori Bazaar, Upper Orakzai. According to police, the suspect identified as Naheed, son of Fazal Rehman and a resident of Badan village, Tappa Azizkhel was known for providing weapons, food, and logistical support to Khawarij and had assisted them on several occasions. Officials said that only days earlier, Dubori Police Station’s Moharrar (station clerk) Khalilur Rehman had received a death threat from a commander of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), after which Naheed allegedly opened fire on him in the crowded Dubori Bazaar.
The injured official was shifted to Mushti for medical treatment, while the suspect was arrested on the spot by the Station House Officer. Police stated that while Naheed was being transferred to Kalaya Headquarters Jail for interrogation, he jumped from the vehicle in an attempt to flee. Officers opened fire, fatally wounding him.
Multiple rounds of negotiations between the district administration and the family have so far failed. Police have tightened security in Upper and Lower Orakzai as the situation remains tense, with officials calling for restraint and a peaceful resolution.
